Braiding hair today has evolved into an art form. Braiding hair started back in ancient times in Africa. Today All nationalities of people are braiding their hair. People for a long time have worn their hair in a basic braid style but over a period of time, there have been many variations that have come about.

African hair braiding designs for women

French Braids: The french braid is started from the hairline at the forehead and goes down the back of the head. Strands of hair are taken from both sides of the head and weaved into the braid so that all of the hair is secured.

The English braid: This is the most common of the styles and is formed by diiding three even strands of hair which are woven one over the other starting from the nap of the neck down to the ends of the hair.

Cornrow Braids: Are created by braiding in thin tight braids that are close to the scalp and in straight lines.

Hair Braiding Designs for Men

Although, not as common among men as in women, braids are popular among African American men in the form of cornrows and dreadlocks.

Dreadlocks: the dreadlocks are the most popular black hair braiding designs, for men and for women as well as women. dreadlocks are suited for long hair and are made by sectioning the hair into tiny squares and securing each section with a rubber bands. Once you have the sections made, you simply start back combing each section, rolling it as you go down the length of the hair to keep the dread round and finally securing it with a rubber band at the bottom.
